2017 Annual reception of the FBLS – House of Lords

The Franco-British Lawyers Society (Association des Juristes Franco-Britanniques) held its traditional annual reception in the River Room of the House of Lords in January 2017.

Although I have been involved with the FBLS for more than a decade first as a committee member then as a co-director for Scotland as well as web designer, it is only the second time that I have been to the prestigious London event.

We had some very touching speeches from the Lord Speaker, Lord Hope of Craighead, Sylvie Bermann (Ambassadeur de France au Royaume-Un) and Bernard Vatier (the President of the FBLS) addressing the challenges and opportunities that Brexit represent for our Society [See picture below]. Some of those speeches are already available on the website [access restricted to members] and we expect some more as well as pictures of the event soon.

Before the reception, the FBLS had its annual general meeting where, amongst other things, the society agreed to revamp its academic prizes. Hopefully, we should be able to announce the new format soon.

And on my way to the House of Parliament, I was caught up in an anti-Trump rally at the Temple Tube Station. I cannot say I did not share the sentiment.
